[And now for something completely different! Something simple, yet astonishing in its own right.
Moro, playing with a squirrel.
...Granted, the squirrel is running for its life, as Moro playfully bats at it, chasing it in the snow and pinning it with a massive paw. Then she would release it, before letting it scurry off before trotting after it.
Don't let your guard down, though. Even now, the scent of a fresh kill lingers on her. Likely a deer. Her full belly may also be why this little squirrel is getting harassed rather than killed.]

She's huge. She's also clearly messing about, and not actually on the hunt, which he's thankful for. A playful wolf is always better than a hungry one, or so he assumes. He doesn't have any prior experience with wolves, but it's a logical deduction.
Carefully, he backs up the way he came as silently as he can in the snow, intending to retrace his steps. Playful or not, he has no intentions of disturbing Moro in what is plainly her territory.]

and she is curious. deeply so. such a great beast... not a normal beast. she can tell that much. Moro reminds her of the wolves of her past, great dark things that thought to destroy her.
Moro is not such a creature, but it inspires caution nonetheless.
can she speak to this creature? does it speak non-human languages? wolf was never the easiest tongue for her; it was rather rudimentary, straight forward, more focused on command than response.
she tries birdsong. ]
And what are you?

I am the goddess Moro.

[ she drops down from her branch, landing lightly on the snow below and making no impact. Moro is massive next to her tiny body, but she does not seem to mind. ]
I am sorry. I would give my name, but it is a human name. I do not remember how it is spoken. Human language is lost to me.
[ even these words are exceedingly difficult. birdsong is expressive, and varied, but does not lend itself to great nuance, except in emotion. ]
Are you goddess of these woods?

[Vivi turns around quickly, looking for the source of the sound. There's something enormous and white, just barely visible through the trees. She thinks it's a pile of snow at first, but something about it seems oddly familiar.]
[Curiosity's overriding any fears she might have, for now. She's not going anywhere.]

S-so... um... hi! You're not a violent wolf, are you? B-because I'm not very good at fighting or anything, so I'd just, y'know, run away...
[At least he smells less of human and more of a earthy smell, like grass and dirt.]

He's been doing his best to stay out of her usual haunts, but his trail between village and the northern mountain foothills has been used frequently while he sets up a camp for himself in one of the caves. And as it's evening now, and the sun is out of reach, Derek is making another trek down into the village for the last of the things he thinks he might need to survive away from the others.
He'll pause a decent distance away, simply watching the chase, his eyes an eerie blue glow in the twilight.]
