...Granted, the squirrel is running for its life, as Moro playfully bats at it, chasing it in the snow and pinning it with a massive paw. Then she would release it, before letting it scurry off before trotting after it.

Don't let your guard down, though. Even now, the scent of a fresh kill lingers on her. Likely a deer. Her full belly may also be why this little squirrel is getting harassed rather than killed.]

The forest is home to all animals, boy. I only chase and slaughter humans for their vile acts against it.

You mean people damaging the woods? Do you have trouble like that here?

I see. We didn't really have much in the way of forests where I come from, so this is something of a novelty for me. We had some lovely countryside, but it was mostly rolling hills, a few patches of trees here and there. Nothing so dense you'd call it a forest.

It does not surprise me, as intent as humans are to destroy the forests.

We didn't destroy the forest, there just never was one there to begin with. That's how the land where I lived had always been. Grass, grass, and more grass.

I'll be the first to admit we humans can do some horrible, careless things, but in my experience, most people aren't really intent on destruction. Some care more about nature than others, but there are very few who are completely indifferent or blind to the consequences of their actions. The problem is when the careless ones gain power, or when people let their greed get the better of their sense.

[It does occur to Ianto that arguing with a giant wolf goddess may not be the best plan, but he's always been rather stubborn about such things. He has an opinion, dammit.]

Is indifference truly excuse for their slaughter! Forests burned, cut; the earth ripped open to pull the iron from it; animals slaughtered, gods shot at...

All in a forest belonging to the god of life and death himself! They would march into the forest to cut his head!

[Insert incredulous look here, even as he backs up a cautious step]

No, nevermind. I'm sure they've got some ridiculous notion as to why that's a good plan and it'll all come back to bite them in the arse. It usually does.

Look, I'm not trying to excuse anything. I'm only trying to explain that most humans are generally more reasonable than that.

Are they really? Because those humans who have been met with reason have all been put to death by the humans who are so certain that they can triumph over the gods.

...I used to work for an organization. Most people who worked there were just doing their jobs, but the people running it thought they could control something they couldn't. The results were...disastrous. Many people died. I lost someone I loved.

So I know very well that reasonable humans can be killed due to the actions of arrogant ones, but that doesn't mean the arrogant outnumber the reasonable. It just means the arrogant are unfortunately better at seizing power.

The pack follows the whims and will of its alpha. What the alpha does is what the pack does.

But if the pack doesn't like where the alpha is leading them, someone will eventually overthrow him.

But the humans are not overthrowing their alpha. They are following her will with gusto, and raising their guns against the gods, led by her arrogant bravado.
