From what I understand, those particular tribes have been banished and wiped out in human wars... apparently the boy's tribe is less than a hundred people, tucked away in hiding far from where the gods reside.

They are a dying race because of the humans that declare war.

I have not the benefit of your experience. Until I am sure in my conviction, the only thing I can do is hesitate and compromise.
