[For once, Moro is using her journal! Her voice comes over the journal, sounding strangely serene. There's a touch of sadness, but overall, she seems content.]

I am aware that my daughter was known, and loved, by some humans. She has returned to where she belongs. There are things still in this den, from her memories of all of you.

I do not care greatly for any of you. I still do not trust many of you.

But she did. And that is something that you should know. Do not dare disrespect that.

[Even with that closing threat, Moro doesn't seem to be untrusting, threatened, or angry.]

You now have but one forest god. And I will defend these trees until I die doing so.

That's... pretty extreme, but if it's kept people from messing with nature, I can't argue with that. You are a little different from the spirits back home. But I do kinda remember seeing a spirit that looked like you in the Spirit World once... I only saw it from a distance, but it was some really huge wolf spirit. Maybe you have a twin in our world!

Gods once roamed the lands in great numbers. Boars, apes, wolves, and many others held their territories, protecting the sacred forests.

Humans moved against us. They began slaughtering the gods, creating guns and spewing fire and iron at us. They began to cut the trees, and impede on the mountain of the Forest Spirit.

I have seen the most hateful and selfish of man. That greed will be their undoing, when they aim to cut the head of the god of life and death.

Even this place, man will not stay as it is. Man will grow stronger, and create deadlier weapons. They will create more things that destroy. And a time will come that even here, in this place, they will turn against me and I will be killed, done away with as they find no use for me.

I see. I'm sorry that the people you knew were so cruel. There have been people on my world who... they were greedy, like that. We don't have guns there, but they could make fire with their hands. But not everyone home is bad. Part of my job as the Avatar is to keep everything in balance and stop people from becoming so powerful and destructive.

I believe there are good people here, and that it won't come to what you say. But... if something like that happens, you can count on me to help you.

You would join forced with me, and fight the humans?

[It's a skeptical, if highly amused tone.]

Well... I don't want to hurt anyone. But I can keep them from hurting you.

Such a confrontation would inevitably come to bloodshed. Even you must know that.

I know that there's always another way. And... if I do my job right, it shouldn't come to that. There are a lot of good people here, too, to help keep everyone in check. I... I can't think of everyone turning on you like that.

If you had ever suffered their betrayal and seen the true human ugliness, you would know. When a human throws her babe at your feet to spare her own life, you will know.

That sounds... horrible. I have known human cruelty. My own people were wiped out by another nation. [pause] But that's why... people need to be watched over and kept balanced, to keep them from becoming... like that.

That does not change that humans are vile at their core. Though my heart has softened around these, I know they are bitter and violent at their hearts. It will be the death of me. And of the forest.
